Mobile vs Modular Offices: What Are the Differences?

Mobile VS Modular Offices

When you need an office and you need it fast, what would you choose – a modular office or a mobile trailer? Many people get confused with these two thinking that they are similar. Therefore, we have listed the differences between mobile and modular offices to help you take a better decision.

Mobile Offices

Modular Offices

Definition Mobile offices or portable offices, as the name suggests, are movable, box-like rooms with a set design. Modular offices are much like traditionally-built offices that can be customized and built according to your needs. These offices are built with a modular construction technique which is faster and more efficient than traditional means of construction. The final offices comply with the National Building Code of Canada, Canadian Electrical Code (Part 1), National Plumbing Code of Canada, and other applicable provincial, territorial, or municipal codes.
Construction Process Mobile offices are manufactured in controlled factory settings as a whole. For instance, a mobile trailer is constructed as a whole and does not require much assembling of parts. Modular offices are made of components manufactured in the factory setting. Each component is prefabricated separately and precisely under controlled conditions. These components are then transported to the outdoor site where the building has to be erected. All components are then assembled together.
Foundation Requirements Since mobile offices aren’t built to stay at one location, they don’t need a foundation or need much assembling of any component. Mobile offices can be customized according to the client’s needs. Modular offices need a foundation to assemble manufactured parts on the site. You can think of modular offices as any traditional building that requires foundation before erecting it.
Mobility When mobile offices are ready, they just need to be transferred to the desired site. You have the freedom to shift, transfer, and relocate a mobile office as per your needs. Since mobile offices exclude the need for an assembling process and foundation like modular offices, the process takes place quickly, without any additional efforts. As mentioned above, modular offices need a foundation to support the structure. Unlike mobile offices, you need a foundation to hold the modular office parts. If you want to shift or relocate your modular office to another site, you need to dismantle the components, transport them to your new desired location, lay a new foundation there, and re-assemble all the components over this new foundation.
Objective Mobile offices are used for sites that need offices for temporary purposes such as a secondary office or building office near a construction site. These types of offices are needed for permanent solutions and applications such as building offices, factories, industries, godowns, warehouses, and other permanent structures.

Both modular and mobile offices are growing in demand due to the growing construction projects and distinct office needs. If you still can’t decide on the type of office that best suits your needs, you may contact Northgate Industries to clear your confusion.
